How to wear a Kimono in 2021 (silk hand dyed kimonos & resort wear)

I don’t know about you…..but this last year has been the strangest I have ever lived through. We have pretty much been locked down for the best part of 12 months, no travelling, barely any socialising, Christmas got cancelled and then the world stopped turning again for 4 months…..my diary has never looked so bleak. One thing that kept me going was online shopping, mainly due to boredom and the endless temptation of discounted sales.

But as we start to emerge from the restrictions of lockdown, I now stand & stare at my overflowing wardrobe and wonder where & how I will get to wear all these fabulous new garms! One thing I absolutely adore is kimonos! You can never have too many. I have a varied collection of all different colours, prints, fabrics, lengths. Some just for the beach, some extra glam for the beach club, some to wear over jeans and also some to tie as dresses. They are such wonderful and versatile pieces and just perfect for your Spring/Summer wardrobe.

With overseas travel looking uncertain at the moment and these kimonos getting lonely in our closets, here are just a few ideas on how to style these beautiful pieces without being on holiday.

Style Du Monde

It’s official the kimono is the ultimate transitional piece. It’s not a new trend, it’s stood the test of time and shows no sign of slowing down anytime soon.

Day or night, the kimono worn over jeans will always be a winning outfit formula. Boho at it’s best! Showing us how it’s done by Soraya Bakhtiar (@sorayabakhtiar)

No worries if you’re not a fan of denim, just simply style your stunning kimono over similar coloured clothing, with all the same tones blending beautifully. Add some fabulous accessories too for that ultra glamorous look!

Another of my favourite styles is to simply tie the kimono and wear as a dress. If there is no tie on your kimono just use your favourite belt to secure in place. Oversized sunnies, favourite flats or wedges & off you go!! Winning summertime look from Monikh.
